Seven from county on All-LOVC SE teams

Just over a half dozen Crawford County athletes were recognized for their achievements on the diamond this past season by being named to one of the All-Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division teams.

In what turns out to be the final set of All-LOVC teams to be announced due to the conference dissolving, a total of seven players between Oblong and Hutsonville-Palestine received honors in either baseball or softball.

Oblong led the way with three First Team selections in softball, while also earning one in baseball. Hutsonville-Palestine had one First Team selection in baseball, while also picking up a Second Team selection in both baseball and softball.

For the Lady Panthers, senior Abbie Dart and junior Aireka Burke were unanimous First Team selections, while senior Nyah Laino was also on the squad.

Dart batted .462 (36-78) for the Lady Panthers this season, including two home runs, 11 doubles, one triple, 30 runs scored and 23 runs batted in.

Burke posted a team-high .505 average (47-93), which included two home runs, a team-high 13 doubles, a team-high eight triples, a team-high 33 runs scored and 17 runs batted in.

Laino finished the season with a .383 average (31-81), including a team-high four home runs, six doubles, a team-leading 38 runs batted in and 18 runs scored.

Also, Hutsonville-Palestine freshman was named to the Second Team as a pitcher.

Sheets pitched in 20 of 23 games for the Lady Tigers this past season, including 15 starts. She posted a 2-11 record with a 3.66 ERA, while walking 15 batters and striking out 165 in 99.1 innings of work.

At the plate, Sheets hit .436 (24-55) with three home runs, six doubles, two triples, 11 runs batted in and 11 runs scored.

On the baseball side, Hutsonville-Palestine junior Brennen Burkett received a First Team selection, as was Oblong senior Conner Potts, while Hutsonville-Palestine sophomore Kegan Cooper was named to the Second Team.

For Burkett, he posted a team-leading .429 batting average (21-49) this season over 19 games, including four home runs, 10 doubles, 22 runs batted in and 17 runs scored.

He also led the pitching staff with a 1.72 ERA over 40.2 innings, including 20 walks and 53 strikeouts in his eight appearances.

Meanwhile, Potts recorded a team-high .491 batting average (28-57) while playing in 19 of 20 games for the Panthers this season, including three doubles, two triples, 23 runs scored and eight runs batted in.

He also appeared in two games on the mound this season for OHS, posting a 5.25 ERA in one and one-third innings of work.

As for Cooper, he hit .340 for the Tigers (18-53) in 19 games, including one home run, two doubles, 20 runs scored and nine runs batted in.
